At 404-CUT-TREE, we maintain a staff of top-notch quality Alpharetta certified arborists to provide service and advice about your trees’ health and well-being. We are trained and ready to examine your trees and discuss their current state and health history, the best times for pruning and fertilizing, regular yearly and seasonal care, and symptoms and situations that concern you about stressed, unhealthy, unsound or injured trees.
An arborist is a professional trained in the study, management, and healthcare of individual trees. By and large, most arborists work with a tree service as part of a larger network or team of experts in tree services. Our arborists provide assessments of the health of trees, then offer advice and finally prescribe treatments to treat specific tree issues.
Understanding Tree Health
Just like humans, trees are subject to stress from their environment such as abiotic stresses by humans and wildlife, too much or too little moisture, soil conditions or climate. Stressed trees become far more susceptible to infections and infestations, and they are less able to successfully recover from injuries. An arborist’s prescription for an ailing tree may address the visible symptoms of an infection or other health problem, the underlying issues and conditions that placed the tree under enough stress to allow or exacerbate the health problem, or some combination of the two. This depends greatly on the individual case: sometimes cleaning out or trimming an infected area will give the tree a better chance at healing and growing around its injuries; and frequently improving a weakened tree’s condition will restore it to health and allow its natural immune system’s defenses to fight off an infection.
Local and Regional Situations
Although it is most common for trees to succumb to infection or predators when they are already under stress or injured, there are always a few exceptions to the rule. Some insects and diseases, like ambrosia beetles, emerald ash borers, Asian longhorn beetles, gypsy moths, and hypoxylon cankers, are able to attack both stressed and healthy trees. Many parts of the country have experienced waves or infestations of these predators because they have very few environmental restraints and are able to grow in number until they spread to otherwise healthy trees. Alpharetta and the rest of the metro Atlanta area have been lucky to have fewer of these tree plagues than other areas. Alpharetta certified arborists have monitored and treated waves and bursts of tree predators including the Southern pine beetle and the ambrosia beetle in the last few years, and our certified arborists make sure to keep abreast of developments in this area.
What is a Certified Arborist?
Every Alpharetta certified arborist is required to have three years of experience and pass a comprehensive exam administered by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). This exam is the central part of the process of becoming certified by the ISA, and is intended to prove that an arborist has reached a specific standard of education and knowledge of the science of tree care, including up-to-date information and procedures. Certified arborists in Alpharetta and elsewhere must also continue to be educated at regular intervals in order to update and refresh their qualifications. We have four excellent certified arborists here at 404-CUT-TREE, all of whom are experts in the art and science of managing and caring for your trees.
How We Work
When you request an arborist to examine your tree, our arborists will come equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge and tools to form a comprehensive picture of the tree’s health and conditions. The initial examination could involve visual inspection, samples of the tree’s leaves and the soil conditions around it, and even laboratory analysis to examine these samples more closely. There are as many (or more!) treatments as there are tree health problems, but some of the most common are fertilizers, insecticides, and soil decompaction tools. These treatments are intended to either improve the general health of the tree by improving its environment or to drive off parasites and give the tree a chance to recover.
